A Rainbow of Gemstone Jewelry in the Matthews, NC Area

Gemstone Engagement Rings

Why should diamond rings get all the attention? Gemstone rings set with precious or semi-precious stones are unique and beautiful. Receiving a sapphire as an engagement ring has become more commonplace in recent years: sapphires are available in blue, pink, yellow, or even white (also known as colorless). Morganite's peachy pink shade is also growing in popularity as a choice for an engagement ring. If you're considering a gemstone engagement ring, look for something that you'll feel comfortable wearing every day for the rest of your life. With a sapphire or other precious gemstone ring, you will stand apart from the crowd and have something that matches your style and personality.

Blues in All Hues

Most gemstones occur naturally in more than one color; the most common shade may only be the easiest to source. Sapphires, tourmalines, and topaz come in a rainbow of colors. Amethyst, aquamarine, emeralds, and many others have different levels of saturation, from very light to rich, dark shades. If you're not totally in love with the colors of a stone but want the symbolism and significance of that particular gemstone, ask your jeweler if they can order additional colors or hues. The beauty of shopping at Morrison Smith Jewelers is that no matter your color preference, there's a piece of gemstone jewelry for you.

Semi-precious but Never Semi-dramatic

Semi-precious gemstones don't get all the credit they deserve. If you're on the hunt for a distinctive set of earrings, a semi-precious stone can be one of the best routes: they come in all sorts of colors, and you can often find very large and good-quality stones at an affordable price. If you're on the search for a green stone but don't want an emerald, check out garnets or peridots. Garnets, typically dark to light red, can also form as green crystals; in this form they are referred to as tsavorite, which is rarer but maintains the same core minerals present in the garnet family. Peridot, one of the few naturally-occurring stones available in only one color, still has a vast selection of shades, from a light yellowish-green to moss to a brownish-olive. While you might not find a shade of pure emerald green in either one, you'll be happily surprised by the variety that awaits you!

Diamond Alternatives

Whether you're trying to be more eco-conscious or you don't think it's worth going into debt for a diamond but still want a naturally-occurring stone, clear gemstones are gaining traction and popularity as diamond alternatives. Colorless sapphires and moissanite are the most diamond-like gemstones and have much of the durability, hardness, and sparkle that diamonds do. Other stones like morganite and aquamarine don't have quite the same colorless qualities, but they catch the light in the same way a diamond would. For your next purchase, why not try an aquamarine ring or a pair of moissanite earrings to mix it up a little?
